Great Skua

Stercorarius skua
A bold and powerful seabird with dark, robust plumage and a strong, hooked bill. Great Skuas are the “pirates” of the sea, often chasing other birds to steal their food, and are a occasionally spotted offshore.
- Habitat: Most likely to see offshore.
- When to See: Rare winter visitor and occasional migrant, mostly in colder months.
- Diet / Food: Fish, other seabirds, and carrion – they are very opportunistic.
- Length: 55–65 cm
