Grey Phalarope

Phalaropus fulicarius
A small, graceful bird with pale, soft plumage and a slim, dark bill. Unlike most waders, Grey Phalaropes often appear to dance on the water’s surface as they feed on tiny marine creatures – a rare and lovely sight when they pass through.
- Habitat: Open coastal waters and estuaries with little cover.
- When to See: Usually seen in small numbers during autumn and winter migrations.
- Diet / Food: Tiny crustaceans and other minute aquatic invertebrates skimming the water’s surface.
- Length: 14–16 cm
