Little Ringed Plover

Charadrius dubius
A neat, small plover with a fine black bill, pale sandy-brown upperparts, and a bright yellow eye-ring. In flight, its wings lack the bold white wingbar seen in the closely related Ringed Plover.
- Habitat: Gravel pits, shingle beaches, muddy edges; prefers spots with little vegetation.
- When to See: Mostly a passage migrant in spring and late summer.
- Diet / Food: Feeds on small invertebrates such as insects, worms, and aquatic larvae by quick runs and pecks.
