Skylark
Alauda arvensis
Famed for its soaring, continuous song, delivered high overhead. Skylarks have streaky brown plumage, a small crest, and pale underparts. They prefer open fields, meadows, or coastal grassland.
- Habitat: Farmland, meadows, coastal grassland—any open area with short vegetation.
- When to See: Year-round though more noticeable in spring when singing.
- Diet / Food: Seeds, shoots, and insects (especially in breeding season).
