Whitethroat

Sylvia communis
A lively warbler recognised by its bright white throat, greyish head (male), and warm brown back. Often perched atop a bush singing its scratchy tune. It breeds in hedgerows and scrub on Guernsey, and may appear on Lihou feeding on insects and the occasional berry.
- Habitat: Scrub, hedgerows, and areas with brambles; occasionally coastal grassland during migration
- When to See: Primarily a summer visitor or passage migrant (April–September)
- Diet / Food: Insects (especially caterpillars) and berries later in the season
- Length: ~13–15 cm
- Weight: ~12–15 g
