Yellow Horned-Poppy
Glaucium flavum
The bright yellow petals of this poppy create a striking display against sparse coastal shingle, though each bloom is relatively short-lived. Its long, horn-like seed pods give the plant its common name. Like Sea Kale on Lihouβs shorelines, the Yellow Horned-Poppy helps stabilise loose substrates and favours salty, drought-prone conditions.
- Habitat: Shingle or sandy shores, dunes, and upper tidal drift lines.
- When to See: Flowers from late spring to early autumn
- Length: ~30β60 cm tall, with grey-green leaves and bright yellow poppy blooms.
